  25.                              INTRODUCTION
  26.  
  27.       Menu Master is a hard drive menuing system that lets you run your
  28. applications from a simple menu.  It let's you skip over ever having
  29. to use DOS at all, except when you load software onto your hard drive.
  30. From the menu all you have to do is use the arrow keys or mouse to
  31. highlight the program you wish to run and press ENTER, or click the
  32. mouse button.  This way you can get some work done and not have to
  33. deal with DOS at all.  Menu Master also has password protection for
  34. each of your applications, as well as a main system password for
  35. locking other people out of your computer completely.
  36.  
  37.       A sample DOS Commands Sub Menu is already set up for you with
  38. the most common things you would do from DOS in a simple menu.  You
  39. can add your own options, or sub menus by following the Getting
  40. Started Section listed on the next page.  You can also edit or delete
  41. the options in the sample sub menu.

  60.                   GETTING STARTED WITH MENU MASTER
  61.  
  62.  
  63.      The following 10 easy steps will quickly get you started with
  64. your own applications in your own custom Menu.
  65.  
  66. 1st:       Press [F2] to open the OPTIONS MENU.
  67.  
  68. 2nd:       Press [ENTER] on EDIT MENU OPTIONS.
  69.  
  70. 3rd:       Press [ENTER] on ADD A PROGRAM.
  71.  
  72. 4th:       Enter in the name of Application you wish to add to
  73.            your menu.  For Example: Word Perfect.
  74.  
  75. 5th:       Press [ENTER] to get to the DOS Command Field.
  76.  
  77. 6th:       Type in the Drive, Sub Directory Name, and File Name you
  78.            wish to run.  For Example: If Word Perfect is on your C
  79.            drive in the sub directory named WP51, and the file to
  80.            start the program is WP.EXE.  Therefore you would enter
  81.            C:\WP51\WP in the DOS command field.

  83. 7th:       Press [ENTER] to get to the Password Field.
  84.  
  85. 8th:       Type in a password if you wish for a PASSWORD window to
  86.            appear each time you press ENTER on Word Perfect from the
  87.            Main Menu.  You won't need this unless you want to keep
  88.            other people out of your private budget or some other
  89.            important software.

  91. 9th:       Press [ENTER] to accept this entry.  This will return you
  92.            to the menu in step 3.  Now you may repeat steps 3 - 9 for
  93.            your next application.
  94.  
  95. 10th:      When finished entering your applications, press [ESCAPE]
  96.            and a SAVE CONFIGURATION window will appear.  Press
  97.            [ENTER] to save the work you just entered to disk.  Now
  98.            these options will always be in your menu.
  99.  
  100. Note:      You may want to organize your applications into Sub Menus.
  101.            At step 3's Menu select "Add a Sub Menu" such as Games.
  102.            Exit back to the Main Menu and go into the GAMES SUB MENU.
  103.            "No Options Found" will be in the menu.  Now Add options
  104.            to this Sub Menu by following steps 1 - 10.  You MUST be
  105.            in the Menu or Sub Menu you are editing to add, edit, or
  106.            delete menu options.

  108.            The "DOS Commands" Sub Menu can be changed to your
  109.            specific needs.  This is just a simple sub menu entered
  110.            the same way you enter other sub menus.  Delete and
  111.            add DOS commands to this menu to keep your main menu
  112.            organized.

  124. [F10]        - HELP (Context sensitive help from any menu or field is
  125.                      available.  You may also scroll through the
  126.                      entire help file at any time.)  Please note:
  127.                      Wherever you see OK or CANCEL choice on the
  128.                      screen, Press [ENTER] to accept or Press [ESCAPE]
  129.                      to cancel as apposed to highlighting your choice.

  140.                           menu, field, or along the menu bar.

  142. [CTRL Left arrow]       - Moves an option down in a changeable
  143.                           menu, and moves you to the beginning of
  144.                           a line in the view window (shell).

  146. [CTRL Right arrow]      - Moves an option up in a changeable menu.
  147.  
  148. [Up and Down arrows]    - Move up and down a selection within a
  149.                           menu, between fields in a window, or
  150.                           scrolls in the help window.
  151.  
  152. [HOME]                  - Moves you to the top selection of a menu,
  153.                           to the  beginning of a field in a window,
  154.                           or to the beginning of the help window.
  155.  
  156. [END]                   - Moves you to the last selection in a
  157.                           menu, to the end of a field in a window,
  158.                           or to the bottom of the help window.
  159.  
  160. [CTRL END]              - Clears everything to the right of the
  161.                           cursor in a field.
  162.  
  163. [INSERT]                - Inserts a character in a field.
  164.  
  165. [DELETE]                - Deletes current character in a field.
  166.  
  167. [PGUP and PGDN]         - Moves up or down a page of selections in
  168.                           a menu OR text in the help window.
  169.  
  170. [TAB]                   - Moves between fields in a window.
  171.  
  172. [First Letter of an option] - Moves to that option in a menu.

  187. [Left Mouse Button]     - Selects an option when the mouse cursor
  188.                           is on a mouse prompt.  Mouse prompts

  240.                   MENU MASTER - MOUSE SUPPORT
  241.  
  242.      If you have a mouse with your system, the mouse driver must be
  243. loaded before executing Menu Master.  You cannot load your mouse
  244. driver from the "Run a DOS Command" Option.  Menu Master may be
  245. used with Microsoft and Logitech compatible mouse products.  Once a
  246. mouse driver is installed, Menu Master will place the mouse cursor,
  247. a block in text mode and an arrow in graphics mode, in the center
  248. of the screen.

  250.      The left mouse button is used as the [ENTER] key or [OK] mouse
  251. button.  You may point to any mouse button or to any option in a
  252. menu or window.  Single click this button to move to an option or
  253. field.  Double click this button to run this option.
  254.  
  255.      The right mouse button is used as an [ESC] or [CANCEL].  You
  256. do not need to be on a mouse prompt when clicking the right button.
  257. This is used for closing the current window or menu.  The Right
  258. Mouse Button may be pressed from the main menu to open the
  259. "Quit the Menu" window.  Next press the [OK] prompt with the left
  260. mouse button to "Quit the Menu".
  261.  
  262.      You may click the Left Mouse Button on a [CANCEL] prompt and it
  263. will cancel.  Do not confuse this with the Right Mouse Button.  This
  264. will act the same as if you had clicked the Right Mouse Button.
  265.  
  266.      The following are the available Mouse Prompts in Menu Master:
  267. HELP, OK, CANCEL, MORE, MOVE, and small arrows that appear in
  268. fields and windows.  The mouse may also be used to change back and
  269. forth between fields.

  303. RUN A DOS COMMAND:
  304.  
  305.      This is a DOS shell allowing commands to be executed from the
  306. DOS prompt.  Use this window as if it were the DOS prompt.  It will
  307. scroll when it needs to.  Use the following field keys when moving
  308. in a scrolling field: [HOME], [END], [CTRL END], and the left and
  309. right arrows.  Press [ENTER] to execute this command.  When this
  310. field is left blank, you will be taken to the DOS prompt.  Type
  311. EXIT to return to the Menu.
  312.  
  313.      If the "Load Prompt" is on, the message "Press Any Key to
  314. Continue" will appear after the command is executed.  Press a key
  315. or the Right Mouse Button and you will return to the Menu.  This
  316. is used when running commands that leave a display on the screen
  317. which you might want to see.  For example, the command CHKDSK
  318. displays information on the screen which is useful.  If the "Load
  319. Prompt" is off, it will automatically return to the Menu, and you
  320. will miss seeing this information.  "Run a DOS Command" is also
  321. affected by the Load Priority.
  322.  
  323. LOAD PRIORITY:
  324.  
  325.      The "Leave in Memory" option will keep the Menu resident as
  326. other applications are executed.  This is helpful when running
  327. simple disk maintenance tasks with a quick return to the Menu.
  328. This should only be used on machines with 640K or more.
  329.  
  330.      "Flush from Memory" will flush the Menu from memory while
  331. the chosen application is executed.  This is best used when
  332. running a large program.  The Menu only takes up 13K RAM when this
  333. option is chosen.

  335. LOAD PROMPT:
  336.  
  337.      When returning to the Menu, a prompt will appear, "Press any
  338. key to continue".  This is if you want to see what might be
  339. displayed on the screen before returning to the Menu.  When
  340. running other applications, you may want to turn this off so you do
  341. not have to press a key every time you return to the Menu.  All
  342. options returning to the Menu will be affected.  This option may
  343. be saved. (See "Save Configuration" for details.)

  362. SCREEN COLORS:
  363.  
  364.      Screen Colors allows the operator to customize the colors
  365. displayed on the screen.  All display boxes, except the box
  366. shadows (which are always black), may be altered.  Select the
  367. window or menu you wish to change from the menu.  On the color
  368. palette an X will select the present color scheme.  The scheme
  369. will also appear in the top of the box which contains the name of
  370. the selected menu or window.  The color of the X of block is the
  371. foreground color and the background is the background color.
  372. Move the X with the arrow keys or select an option with the
  373. mouse.  Press [ENTER] to use the new selected colors, or [ESC] to
  374. cancel.  The entire screen will be redrawn, and you will return
  375. to the Main Menu.  This option may be saved.  (See " Save
  376. Configuration" for details.)

  378. SCREEN MODES:
  379.  
  380.      Screen Modes is used for expanding the number of lines which
  381. display on the screen.  The Menu makes room for more Applications to
  382. appear in the Main Menu and Sub Menus.  The following modes are
  383. available for each monitor:
  384.

  422.      When using a black and white monitor with color graphics cards
  423. and for those with LCD (laptop display) monitors, you should
  424. change to the graphics mode this is black and white only and will
  425. be entirely visible on these monitors.  If you have any other
  426. monitor card combination, the closest combination listed above
  427. will be used. This option may be saved.  (See "Save
  428. Configuration" for details.)
  429.  
  430. EQUIPMENT WINDOW:
  431.  
  432.      The Equipment Window displays additional information about
  433. your machine that does not change unless your hardware changes.
  434. This shows all of your Communications Ports (printers, modems,
  435. etc.), Disk Drives (Floppy and Hard), your machine's Base Memory
  436. (RAM), your monitor and monitor card combination, if you have a
  437. mouse installed, and the DOS version number.
  438.  
  439. SAVE CONFIGURATION:
  440.  
  441.      "Save Configuration" allows you to change all of the options
  442. listed to your specific needs and to save them so that each time
  443. you enter the Menu the options you have chosen will be restored.
  444. The following options may be saved: Load Priority, Load Prompt,
  445. Screen Colors, Screen Modes, Menu Title, Time & Date Window, and Menu
  446. bar.  The changes will be saved to disk in a configuration file named
  447. MENU.CNF.  This file may be edited with any text editor.  The default
  448. modes are easily read and can be changed to suit your needs.  If the
  449. file is not present, it will be created. This file will be written in
  450. the directory where MENU.EXE is located.  You do not have to default
  451. to this directory before saving if it is in your path.
  452.  
  453. PRINT MANUALS:
  454.  
  455.      Here you may print this document, the Point & Shoot Manual, to
  456. your printer.  The manual is in an ASCII file and will print directly
  457. to your parallel printer on LPT1: (parallel port).  If you have a
  458. serial printer, you must, first run "SET SERIAL PORT EQUAL TO
  459. PARALLEL PORT" from the DOS Commands Sub Menu.  Then return to
  460. this option and print.  If you have a Laser printer, you may have
  461. to use Form Feed on the printer to get the last page.

  463. QUIT MENU:
  464.  
  465.      To exit back to DOS, select the "Quit Menu" option and press
  466. [ENTER], or press [ESC] from the Main Menu and press [ENTER] from the
  467. Quit Window.

  482. EDIT MENU OPTIONS:
  483.  
  484.      This is where you add programs and sub menus to the Menu.
  485. Also, you can edit or delete the programs or sub menus.  The main
  486. system password is also set here.  A "Save Configuration" window
  487. will appear every time you leave this menu.  So make sure to Press
  488. [ENTER] if you have made any changes.
  489.  
  490. ADD A PROGRAM:
  491.  
  492.      This is where you add a program to your menus.  An input window
  493. will appear with three fields in it.  First, enter the name of
  494. the program as you want it to appear in the menu.  Then, type in
  495. the DOS command to run that application.  For example, if you
  496. were setting up WordPerfect, you would type "WordPerfect" in the
  497. Program Name field, and "C:\WP51\WP" in the DOS Command field.
  498.  C: is the drive letter. \WP51\ is the Sub Directory name where
  499. WordPerfect is.  WP is the program command to run WordPerfect
  500. from DOS.  Now, enter in a Password for this option if you don't
  501. want other people in it.  IF YOU FORGET YOUR PASSWORD, YOU CAN
  502. LOOK IT UP BY EDITING THE PROGRAM.  THE PROGRAM WILL BE ADDED TO
  503. THE MENU OR SUB MENU THAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY IN.
  504. Press [ENTER] when you are finished adding this option.  Then
  505. Press [ESCAPE] from the "Edit Options" Menu, and [Enter] to save
  506. configuration. Now your menu has been redrawn with your new
  507. option in it.

  509. EDIT A PROGRAM:
  510.  
  511.      This allows you to change an option that is already entered in a
  512. menu.  Type in the title of the option and the same input window from
  513. "Add An Option" will appear.  Now you can edit any of this
  514. information, and it will change it when you press [ENTER].  YOU
  515. MUST BE IN THE MENU OR SUB MENU WITH THE PROGRAM YOU ARE GOING TO
  516. EDIT.

  518. DELETE A PROGRAM:
  519.  
  520.      This allows you to delete a program in a menu or sub menu.  Type
  521. in the program name and press [ENTER].  An "Are You Sure" Window
  522. appear.  Press [Y] for yes or [ENTER] to delete this option.
  523. Type the word "ALL" to delete all of the options in the menu.
  524.  YOU MUST BE IN THE MENU OR SUB MENU WITH THE PROGRAM YOU ARE
  525. GOING TO DELETE.

  542. ADD A SUB MENU:
  543.  
  544.      You may add sub menus to your main menu to organize the type
  545. of programs in your menus.  For example, if you have five or ten
  546. games you can add a "Games Menu" and fill the sub menu with the
  547. game names.  This keeps your Main Menu smaller and much more
  548. organized.  Enter the name of the Sub Menu which will appear in
  549. the Main Menu.  Then you may enter a password if you want to keep
  550. people out of your Sub Menu.  Then you must return to the Main
  551. Menu and go into your Sub Menu before adding options
  552. to your Sub Menu.  Your Sub Menu must be open when you add
  553. programs to that Sub Menu.  SUB MENUS MAY ONLY BE ADDED TO THE
  554. MAIN MENU - HARD DRIVE MENU - OPTIONS MENU
  555.  
  556. EDIT A SUB MENU:
  557.  
  558.      You may edit a Sub Menu that you have already added to your
  559. Main Menu.  Enter in the Sub Menu name.  You may change the name
  560. or password from here. SUB MENUS MAY ONLY BE EDITED FROM THE MAIN
  561. MENU.
  562.  
  563. DELETE A SUB MENU:
  564.  
  565.      You may delete your Sub Menus from here.  This will delete
  566. the menu and all of the programs in it.  This may only be done
  567. from the Main Menu.
  568.  
  569. MAIN PASSWORD:
  570.  
  571.      This allows you to set a main password for the system.  This
  572. stops people from going into DOS, saving a new configuration, and
  573. setting up new or deleting menu options in the menus.  Set this
  574. password and "Save Configuration" to keep people out of your
  575. system.  Entering a blank password will get rid of the current
  576. password if you want to delete the main password.  You must
  577. remember to "Save Configuration" to keep it that way.  IF YOU
  578. FORGET YOUR MAIN PASSWORD, YOU ARE IN TROUBLE!  You would have to
  579. remove Point & Shoot using the INSTALL program on the disk, and
  580. then reinstall the software.  This will lose all of your menu
  581. options and the options in your .cnf file.
  582.  
  583. DISPLAY TIME AND DATE:
  584.  
  585.      Select "Display" or "Hide" in the menu.  This will hide the
  586. time and date window or display it.  Remember to "Save
  587. Configuration" after changing this option.

  602. DISPLAY MENU BAR:

  604.      This allows you to hide the menu bar in case you don't want
  605. anybody to know how to change the menu options.  Select "Display"
  606. in the menu if you like to show the menu bar.  Remember to" Save
  607. Configuration" after changing this option.

  609. MAIN MENU TITLE:
  610.  
  611.      This allows you to put a title in your main menu.  This could
  612. be your company name or personal hard drive name.  Remember to
  613. "Save Configuration" to keep it this way.
  614.  
  615. HIDDEN GAMES:
  616.  
  617.     Press [F3] and [F4] for the hidden games of Knockout and Blocks.
  618. They are PCT's versions of Breakout and Tetris.  Blocks High Score
  619. as of 07-01-1992 is 200,844!  Level 20 of Knockout has never been
  620. completed!
